Songling Memos

Help

Write to support@songling.app. It helps to say which iPhone or iPad you have, its version of iOS (Settings › General › About), and what you were doing when it went wrong. A real person reads every message, usually within a couple of days.

I bought Pro on another device. How do I get it back?

Open Settings in the app, tap Songling Memos Pro, then Restore purchases. It comes back on any iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account, and it is shared with your Family Sharing group. There is no account of ours to set up.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, and so are refunds: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.

Will my markers show up in my DAW?

Export as WAV and each marker is written as a standard cue point with its name and note; AIFF gets them as markers. Bring the file into a DAW or audio editor that reads file markers and they appear on its timeline. M4A can't hold markers, so they're listed in the file's comment instead, and the .songling.json beside an export keeps them too.

Can I change the statuses?

Yes. Tap a take's status, then Edit statuses. Rename, reorder or recolour any of them, give each a symbol or emoji, add your own, and delete any you don't use, the originals included; there's always at least one, and new takes start on the first. Back to Spark, Developing, Demo, Finished restores the originals.

Something went wrong. How do I tell you?

Write to support@songling.app. If the app crashed or froze, iOS usually writes a report within a day: open Settings › Privacy › Crash reports in the app and share it with your message. Reports stay on your iPhone unless you send one.

Why do I need headphones for Record over?

When you layer a part, the take plays while you record. Through the speaker the mic hears it too, so it ends up in the new part twice. Headphones keep the new part clean. Replacing a section works either way.

How do I record without opening the app?

Add Songling's Record an Idea control to the Lock Screen, Control Center or the Action Button, or add a widget, or say "Record an idea in Songling". The app's Settings › Record from anywhere walks through each one. A take started this way keeps going with the screen locked, with a Live Activity to pause, mark or stop it.

Which files can I import?

Any audio file iOS can play: M4A and AAC, Apple Lossless, MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and CAF. Open Settings › Import › Import audio files… to choose as many as you like from Files, iCloud Drive or a connected drive, or share them to Songling Memos from any app's share sheet, AirDrop or Mail. Each one keeps its file name as its title and its recording date, and is analysed for key, tempo, chords and words like a new take. Files Songling exported bring back their status, tags and notes; keep the .songling.json beside them and their markers, chords and words come back too.

How do I bring in my old Voice Memos?

iOS doesn't let apps read the Voice Memos library directly, so the app shows you the two ways that work: share recordings from Voice Memos to Songling, or pick them in Files. Open Settings › Bring in your Voice Memos. Each one keeps its date and is analysed like a new take.

My recordings aren't showing on my iPad

Both devices need to be signed in to the same iCloud account with iCloud sync on in the app's Settings. Recordings download when you open them, so a new one can take a moment on a slow connection.

Why isn't a recording on the map?

Recordings are pinned only when location is allowed and Pin new recordings on the map is on in Settings. To add or change a place afterwards, tap the place under the recording's title and search for where it was made, or choose Where I am now.

The key, tempo or chords look wrong

They're worked out on your device and are a good first guess, not gospel, especially for quiet or busy recordings. Tap the pencil on any of them to set it yourself; your answer always wins.
