Songling Stand

Help

Write to support@songling.app. It helps to say which iPhone or iPad you have, its version of iOS (Settings › General › About), and what you were doing when it went wrong. A real person reads every message, usually within a couple of days.

How do I unlock the full version, or get it back on a new device?

Every feature works free for 25 songs and one setlist. To unlock the rest, tap the Free version card at the bottom of the sidebar, or go to Settings › Purchase. It's one purchase, not a subscription, and Family Sharing covers your family. On a new device, or after reinstalling, tap Restore Purchase in the same place.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, and so are refunds: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.

How do I connect a page-turner pedal?

Pair it in your iPad's or iPhone's Settings › Bluetooth; AirTurn, PageFlip, Donner and most others work as keyboards. Set the pedal to send arrow keys, Page Up/Down, Space or Return. On stage, right, down, Page Down, Space and Return turn forward; left, up and Page Up turn back. At the end of a song, forward goes on to the next song in the set. You can also tap the right or left edge of the page.

What can I import?

ChordPro files (.cho, .chopro, .chordpro, .crd, .pro), OnSong files (.onsong), plain text with chords above the lyrics, PDFs, and MusicXML scores (.musicxml, .mxl), as well as whole folders and zips of them. Use Import in the library; open a file in Songling Stand from AirDrop, Mail or Files (Share › Songling Stand); or drag files and folders onto the library, or onto a book in the sidebar. New Chart › Paste a Chart takes a chart copied from a website or another app. OnSong's Book tags become books in your library. Charts are kept as ChordPro, so they open in other apps too. Import › How to Bring Music In shows each way in, with a button for each.

How do I bring in a lot of songs at once?

Put them in a folder in Files (on iCloud Drive, or on your iPad), or in a zip, and choose Import › Files or Folders, then the folder. Everything in it that's music comes in, sub-folders and all: each sub-folder becomes a book, and the songs at the top go in a book named after the folder. Pictures, readmes and other files are left out. A file that's already in your library isn't added again, so you can bring the same folder in after adding to it. On a Mac, or an iPad with Files beside it, you can drag the folder onto the library instead. From forScore or MobileSheets, share or export your PDFs to a folder in Files first, then bring the folder in.

Where can I find sheet music to try?

Import › Sample Sheet Music adds two public-domain pieces: Greensleeves as a PDF lead sheet, and Ode to Joy as a MusicXML score you can move to any key. For more, IMSLP (imslp.org) has a large library of free public-domain sheet music as PDFs, and MuseScore.com has scores you can download as MusicXML or PDF (it asks for a free account). From the MuseScore app or MuseScore Studio, export a score as MusicXML and open it in Songling Stand: MusicXML changes key like a chart, where a PDF stays as it's written.

How do I bring my SongbookPro library over?

In SongbookPro, make a backup (Settings › Backup) and save the .sbpbackup file to Files, or AirDrop it to your iPad; a set or song shared from SongbookPro as a .sbp file works too. Tap it in Files, or use Import in Songling Stand's library. Your songs come in as ChordPro charts, and your sets in the same order, with each song's capo, key change and note for the set. Songs already in your library aren't added twice.

How do I send a set to my band?

Open the set, tap the share button and choose Send to Band. Send the file by AirDrop, Messages or Mail; your bandmates open it in Songling Stand and get the set with its songs, in the same order and keys, with your notes. Send it again after a change and their copy updates, without doubling anything (a chart they've edited themselves keeps their version). Your Pencil markup and recordings stay on your iPad. Sending needs the full version; opening a set works in the free version too, within its 25 songs and one set.

How do I bring my OnSong library over?

In OnSong, choose Utilities › Backup and save the backup to Files, or AirDrop it to your iPad. Then tap the .backup file in Files, or use Import in Songling Stand's library. Your songs come in as ChordPro charts, with their keys, and your sets in the same order. Songs already in your library aren't added twice, so you can import a newer backup later. Songs that are only sheet music in OnSong come over separately: export them from OnSong as PDF and import those.

Where are my files, and how do I get them onto my other devices?

In the Files app, in the Songling Stand folder: each song is a folder with its ChordPro text or untouched PDF and a small file for its details; setlists are files of their own. Turn on Sync with iCloud in Settings and the library moves to your iCloud Drive, where your iPad and iPhone share it. If two devices change the same song while offline, the most recent change is kept.

How do I change the key, or play with a capo?

On stage, pick the key the band will sound in and every chord follows, spelled the way musicians write it. Add a capo and the chords show the shapes you'll play. In a setlist, a song's key and capo are kept for that set: long-press the song and choose Edit Key and Note.

Can I see the chords as Nashville numbers?

Yes: on stage, Chords as › Numbers, or set it for every song in Settings. For songs in a minor key, Settings lets you number from the minor tonic (Am is 1m) or from the relative major (Am is 6m).

How do I print a set, or send it to the band?

Open the setlist and tap the share button: the whole set becomes one PDF, each song in the key and capo it's set to, with its note. Print it or send it from the share sheet. A single song shares the same way: long-press it › Share.

Why won't a song from Apple Music play along?

Songs from Apple Music are protected, and no other app can play them. Recordings from Files, AirDrop or Voice Memos work: attach one in the song's details (long-press the song › Song Details).

How do I change sounds on my keyboard with each song?

Turn on MIDI in Settings and choose where to send it (or pair a Bluetooth MIDI device there). Then give a song its program, and bank if needed, in Song Details. It's sent as the song comes up on stage.

The tuner doesn't hear anything.

It needs the microphone: allow it for Songling Stand in Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone. The click stops while the tuner listens, so it isn't heard as the note.
