Songling and Mac · last updated 26 October 2026

The short version: Songling collects nothing about you. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it works with no internet connection at all. What you make stays on your iPad or Mac.

What stays on your iPad or Mac

Everything you make is saved on your iPad or Mac, inside the app: songs, sketches, the progressions you keep, your own patterns, your rankings and tags, and your settings. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. It is included in your device's own backups (iCloud Backup, or a backup to your computer) in the way Apple backs up any app. Deleting the app deletes it, apart from any copies you saved elsewhere.

What Songling sends

Nothing. The app makes no connections of its own: no update check, no licence check, no analytics and no crash reporting of its own. The App Store keeps it up to date, and you paid for it before it opened, so it has nothing to ask anyone. It does not use the microphone, your location, your contacts or your photos.

Copies you choose to make

When you save a song, sketch or progression as a .songling file, or export MIDI or MusicXML, the file goes where you send it: Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, Mail or another app. What happens to it there is up to the place you chose. When you open a file in Songling, the app reads only that file.

Shared progressions. When you share a progression as a link, the progression is written into the link itself, after the #. Browsers never send that part of a link to a server, so when someone opens it, songling.app receives only a request for the page. It does not receive the progression, or anything about you. The link carries the chords, the notes, the key, the meter, the tempo, the name you gave it and any tags, and nothing else from your iPad. Anyone you give the link to can pass it on, so share it as you would the music itself.

Crash reports from Apple

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports and statistics about the app. They come from Apple, not from Songling, they say nothing about who you are or what you made, and you can switch them off in that same place.

Buying it

Songling is sold by Apple on the App Store. Apple takes the payment, and your card details and Apple Account go to Apple, never to us. We see sales totals by country, not who bought it. Apple's own privacy policy covers the App Store.

This website

Like nearly every website, the host serving songling.app keeps ordinary access logs, which record the address a request came from, the page asked for, and when. They are used to keep the site working and are not combined with anything else. The site has no trackers and no analytics.

Children

Songling collects nothing from anyone, children included.

Asking

Songling is made by Pyrokinesis Ltd, a company registered in New Zealand. If this policy changes, the new version will be here, with its date at the top. Questions about any of this: support@songling.app.
